If you start walking downhill from the Csiki Tanya
stop of the bus number 88, you will reach the Recreational Park at Virág utca 6 in 3 minutes. In connection
with the archaeological excavation of Middle Age Csik village, an Árpád Age
archaeological park was created in this area, where visitors can experience our
ancestors' everyday life through a thatched-roofed pit-house, bread-baking and
potter's furnaces, yurtas and period gardens. In order to make the forest
school programme and summer camps even more enjoyable, a number of further
sights have been created recently: an American Indian village, a wooden castle,
a playground, a potter's workshop, grassy and sandy sports fields, an archery
field, a swimming pool, a fishpond, etc. Regardless of the season you arrive in
this park full of trees, the New World garden and the Middle Age monastery
garden are worth a visit. Also, you should not miss baking a „lepény" and
cooking in a „bogrács"! If you leave Csiki Recreational Park and walk along
Virág, and then Hóvirág and Rézvirág utca, you will reach 249-m-high, uniquely
valuable Törökugrató. By passing some locust-trees and then a planted
Australian pine-forest, you reach the turfy dolomite hillside where visitors are
received by a wonderful assortment of flowers in spring. The first flowers in
April are light violet actinias, with bright yellow flowers of pheasant's eye,
small, blue-flowered grape-hyacinths and irises among wild agrimonies and
stonecrops. As for protected plants, one may find a field of feather-grass,
beautiful yellow sun-roses and gold-dust, Jupiter's beard, meadow-sage and
purple Hungarian carnation. Bushes warm visitors' heart with their flowers
(pink almond) in spring and with their delicious and healthy fruit
(cornel-berry, sloe-bush, rose-hips, hedge-thorn, elderberry). Once you have
returned from the peak, the former quarry is well worth a visit: you can
observe several million year old animal and plant remains in its sediment. You
can return to the bus stop at Szabadság út by walking down Törökugrató utca.
