VICUS TEUTO ROMAN RUIN GARDEN, VALLEY OF HOSSZÚRÉTI STREAM, HORHI VILLAGE, KAMARAERDŐ

You can reach from Vasút utca and Temető utca in Kamaraerdő this archaeological site where a Roman settlement called Vicus Teuto flourished between the 1st and 4th century AD. The rich findings can be viewed in the City Archaeological Exhibition. Of course, it was not possible to reconstruct the complete settlement excavated in an area of nearly 14 hectares in its original location so one of the largest residential buildings in the best condition is presented and a park was created around it. Neighbouring Szarvas-mező still shows traces of traditional farming: cattle and horses grazing outdoors, cereals planted in small parcels and remains of the orchards, mostly cut down by today. After crossing the bridge over Hosszúréti Stream, you can take a rest in the shade of willow-trees that found favourable conditions here. This stream collects rainwater from the entire Budaörs Basin and it has reed, cat's-tail, bulrush, comfrey, sword-flag and various animals along its banks. After walking along Kolozsvári and then Beregszászi utca and climbing a steep slope, you can see the large iron gate of the former orchard of the University of Horticulture. Archaeological research shows that Horhi village was situated here in the middle age and, similarly to neighbouring settlements, destroyed at the end of the Turkish era. Its memorabilia can be seen at the City Archaeological Exhibition. Continuing our walk, you can have a wonderful view of Budaörs and the Buda Hills and then you reach Kamaraerdei út where you can take the bus number 88 to return to Budaörs.
